how it works

Sit down. Play. Get better.

The same loop, whether you’re six or sixty. The coach scales the language; the engine never lies.

Eight named opponents from Tadpole (just learning to wiggle) to Dragon (thousands of years of patience). Kids get capped to age-appropriate strength.

There’s a fork hiding here. The knight has two big targets.

Play with a coach

Every move triggers a quiet nudge. Need more? Climb the hint ladder — concept, candidates, or show the best move. The board is always the hero.

Learn from your games

Free post-game review highlights three key moments. The Game Analyzer goes deep — every move classified, every mistake explained at your level.

what’s inside

Every piece earns its place.

A coach that explains, an engine that doesn’t lie, and a system that grows with the learner.

LLM coach + real engine

Stockfish guarantees correctness. The coach explains the why in language scaled to the learner — never overrides the engine.

Eight animal opponents

From Tadpole to Dragon. Per-age caps so a 6-year-old never faces a master, and an adult never faces a tutorial.

Game Analyzer

Move-by-move classification. Accuracy %. Per-mistake explanations at your level. Two free runs per month.

Tactics Lab

Curated puzzles from the Lichess library. Motif-targeted in Premium. Solve patterns that actually show up in your games.

Voice coach

Optional realtime spoken nudges. Text always works as fallback. Voice transcripts opt-in only for under-13.

Family-safe by design

Parent-first signup. Real parental gates (no tap-the-circle). No ads. No third-party trackers on under-13 profiles.

For kids 5–12

Soft surfaces, gentle voice, one big Play button. No ratings, no leaderboards — just the next mission.

For adult learners

Serious Mode hides the gamification. Honest reviews, tabular numbers, a coach that respects your time.

For parents

A weekly insight in plain English. A bank-app feel for billing. Real parental gates — never a tap-the-circle.

family plan

One subscription, four learners.

Every learner gets their own profile, their own pace, their own coach voice. Parents see a weekly insight in plain English — no chess vocabulary required.

  • Shared streak builder so kids and parents play through the week

Theo’s tactical recognition jumped this week — he’s spotting forks two moves ahead. Suggested next: pin patterns.

The honest answers.

What parents and learners ask before they commit. If anything else is on your mind, the email is in the footer.

What ages does Foresight Chess work for?
Five to adult, on the same platform. Persona variants automatically adjust language, gamification, and UI density — a 6-year-old gets one big Play button; an adult gets numbers, ratings, and Serious Mode.
How is the AI coach different from playing against a chess engine?
Stockfish (the engine) tells us what the right move is. The LLM coach explains why in language scaled to the learner. The coach never overrides the engine — it interprets it. Wrong moves get age-appropriate explanations, not just a centipawn loss number.
How is this different from chess.com or ChessKid?
chess.com/Lichess are world-class chess sites built around playing humans. ChessKid is a kids-first chess product. Foresight Chess is built around learning — every move triggers thought-prompting coach interaction, every game ends with a review, every mistake gets explained. It complements those platforms rather than replaces them.
What about my child’s privacy?
Under-13 profiles never see third-party trackers and never have voice audio stored. Transcripts are off by default and require explicit parent opt-in with a 30-day retention cap. No behavioral analytics get sold or used to train models. We apply the strictest applicable child-privacy rule (COPPA, GDPR-K, UK AADC) globally.
Will my child see ads?
Never. Free tier has feature limits but no ads, ever. Premium prompts appear at four named moments only and never interrupt a live game.
Can multiple kids share one subscription?
Yes. Premium Family ($11.99/month or $89.99/year) supports up to 4 learner profiles. Each profile is persona-aware: kids and adults using the same plan see the right interface and the right coach voice.
Do you offer a free trial?
Yes — 3-day free trial of Premium Individual. Payment method required up-front (we use store-native trials on mobile + Stripe on web), with sensible per-trial usage caps so the AI features can’t be abused. Cancel anytime.
What devices does it work on?
Web (any modern browser), iPhone, iPad, and Android. The same account follows you across all of them — start a game on the iPad, finish it in the browser.
Does the coach work offline?
No. The LLM coach needs an internet connection. Plain Play vs AI works offline (the engine is on-device on mobile), and offline puzzles can be cached during a premium session.
How do I cancel?
One tap in account settings. Web subscriptions cancel via the Stripe customer portal. Mobile via the App Store or Google Play subscription management. No phone calls, no retention dark patterns.
